We need to celebrate each new day with rebirth; to live each day as if were our last. A morning prayer or oblation which grounds us in the present and reminds us of our own mortality in the hope that this reminder will allow us to live this day a new, if not for ourselves but for those close to us who have already fallen along life’s highway, even if today is our 5 year anniversary of working in a cube! In lieu of such a canine ability to live so simply in the now or the memory of a gold fish we need to be able to tap into some celestial lay away machine. Somewhere we can forego an experience today for the opportunity for living it tomorrow. Breakfast on the beach, the encore at the U2 concert, the third night of your honeymoon; all of these and more tucked away safely for future consumption. Unfortunately though no such machine exists and even near death experiences fade and before we know it each day seems like the next and it is only the hope of change that moves us forward.
