I am certainly not one to wax lyrical over times past. For me Koh
Samui and Thailand had always been discovered before I got here;
Coca Cola T-shirts worn by hill tribe shaman, baseball caps donned
by street vendors selling deep fried grass hoppers and of course,
Manchester United. So my hopes of finding the lost tribe have long
since been dashed by corporations.
In fact, you could say I openly embraced the march of globalization.
I couldn't contain my excitement when Starbucks opened, 7-11 sells
all the comforts of home chilled to somewhere just above freezing
and now you cannot throw a stone without hitting an ATM of some
description. Koh Samui has become oh so convenient.
